Hagerstown Campus Unveils New Facility

PIA is proud to announce the opening of a new facility at the Hagerstown Campus. The new facility was specifically designed to fit the needs of the program, and includes shops, classrooms and ramp access.

The new building was inaugurated with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, May 20. Over 150 people were in attendance at the event, including many Washington County, City of Hagerstown, and Maryland State Officials.

“With this facility, PIA continues its mission to expand Aviation Maintenance training opportunities in order to address a nationwide shortage in skilled technicians,” said Suzanne Markle, Executive Vice President of PIA.

Classes will resume in the new building after Memorial Day.

Myrtle Beach Graduates Inaugural Class

PIA’s Myrtle Beach campus held its inaugural graduation on May 7, 2013. 23 students received their certificates from Campus Director Peg Jackson and will now pursue careers in the aviation field. NBAA Awards More Scholarships to PIA Students

PIA Hagerstown Campus students Lexie Rose Shore and Kory Reynolds each received scholarships at the National Business Aviation Association’s 2013 Maintenance Management Conference in Forth Worth, Texas. Shore, a third term PIA-Hagerstown student, was on hand to receive her scholarship to attend a 10 day course in Dallas on the Lear 60/60XR. Reynolds, an April 2013 PIA graduate, won the CAE Citation II Initial course scholarship and will attend his course later this year. The NBAA awarded 35 Technical Reward and Career Scholarships to aspiring A & P mechanics and military personnel throughout the United States.

Shore and Reynolds join PIA graduates Adam Keuler and Matthew Cavanaugh as recipients of the TRACS. For more information on popular aviation scholarships, check out PIA’s Scholarship page.

2013 PIA Memorial Scholarships

The 2013 PIA Memorial Scholarships are now available for competition. This year, there will be five (5) Memorial Fund Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each, matched by PIA for a total award of up to $2,000 each.

To be eligible to apply for these scholarships*, students must;

Be enrolled full-time in an Associate in Specialized Technology degree program or Aviation Maintenance program at PIA or one of its branch campuses, and
Have completed at least one academic quarter/semester at PIA as of the scholarship deadline.

Completed applications must be submitted or postmarked by May 10, 2013.

Minimum Skills, Education, and Experience

Aviation Maintenance Instructors must have FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certification
At least three (3) years of relevant industry work experience
Demonstrated proficiency in the applicable subject area(s)
Verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Familiarization with computer systems for word processing, databases, e-mail, and Internet use

Overview of Job Duties:
1. Adhere to all PIA Policies and Procedures
2. Develop personal lesson plans
3. Teach classroom lectures
4. Manage the student shop/laboratory
5. Maintain inventory of training aids and consumable materials
6. Develop and follow approved methods of student evaluation
7. Advise and discipline students in matters of academic performance, attendance, and conduct
8. Submit accurate grade and attendance information at established intervals
9. Participate in on-the-job and formalized training programs
10. Participate in school-related events

Office and Classroom hours are generally Monday-Friday, from 7:30am to 3:30pm. Faculty members are also encouraged to participate in school Open Houses and other school events.
